Time For An Update (Long)
Yeah, yeah, I know I haven’t posted since the beginning of the month. I have commented on other blogs here and there, but I’ve just been pretty swamped this month. Some of it has been good and some not so good. This is probably going to be a lengthy post so to make it easier for my friends out in LJ-land, I’m going to put it behind the cut.
IN-LAWS
I think the last time I posted, the in-laws had already arrived. The week they were here I also had final exams, which I will write about in the next section that will be about school stuff. The in-law visit did not go well. Usually I get along better with them than my own family. It wasn’t anything I did but more that hubby got fed up about something and I think he and his Dad and stepmom were all a bit crabby.Â
Anyhow, Tuesday night hubby and his stepmom had a bit of a tiff because he asked her not to eat a Klondike bar on our new suede furniture. His parents are very neat. If you ever just drop by their house, it is always clean and in fact looks like a model house. I wasn’t sure anyone actually lived there the first few times we visited. Anyhow, his stepmom rolled her eyes and sighed at being reminded not to get food on the suede furniture. Instead of leaving well enough alone, hubby said something about her rolling her eyes and that’s where things turned sour. The next thing I know he’s all pissed off and says he’s going to bed. We had all been watching a DVD. I followed hubby into the bedroom to see if maybe I could calm him down. I couldn’t. When I went back out to the living room, they had already gone into their room and closed the door. So we never finished watching the DVD.Â
Since I didn’t feel like being around hubby, who was in a pissed off mood, nor did I feel like getting in the middle of any of this, I went to the extra room and played the piano for a while. After that, I went to bed.
The next day was Wednesday and I had my last final exam that afternoon. Hubby got up and noticed his folks had already left to go do something early that morning so he decided to go fishing for a bit because I was studying anyhow. Naturally while he went fishing, his parents came home. I had the bedroom door slightly ajar, but I never came out of the room to talk to them. The main reason was because I knew they would ask why hubby went off the night before and I just didn’t want to get in the middle of it. Plus, I had to study. So I studied and left to go take my exam. After my exam, I get home and the in-laws’ car is gone. When I get inside, I notice all their luggage is also gone.Â
Evidently while I was taking my final exam, hubby got into a screaming match with his stepmom and naturally his Dad got pissed. Hubby and his stepmom eventually made up and they were fine. But hubby’s Dad didn’t want to stay anymore. He wouldn’t come back inside and he wouldn’t let the whole thing go. I was really upset because I didn’t even get to say goodbye, they had indicated they thought I was pissed at them as well because I didn’t come out to spend time with them when I was studying. I wasn’t pissed at them at all. I just didn’t want to get in the middle of the argument.
So the in-laws left Wednesday instead of Saturday as they had originally planned.Â
The next night was Thursday and hubby and I went to the bar since it was ladies’ night. We ended up with about 4 women skinny dipping in our pool late that night and one who actually stayed and hung out with us the rest of the weekend. It was a definitely an interesting night.
FINALS, GRADES AND SCHOOL
On the scholastic front, everything went well. I aced all my exams and had a 4.0 GPA for the Spring Semester and was on the President’s List. Summer session started May 10, so I didn’t have much of a break between Spring and Summer.
Originally I was going to have to take Intermediate Algebra and then 2 Math courses that would count towards my degree. When I took my placement test for math back in March, I did very well in basic algebra but not so well in college level math. Because of that I was going to have to take the Intermediate Algebra course before I could take any math towards my degree. The day I took the placement test back in March, I was sick as a dog. In fact, I had just come from my doctor’s office and had some time to kill before my next class, so I decided to take the placement test then.
I went to my advisor and explained that I had been sick when I took the placement test the first time and asked to be able to retake it. They allow people to retake the test but you have to get permission to do so, plus pay the cost of retesting. The first day of classes, I went to my Intermediate Algebra class. After the class, I took the placement test over, but just the college level match portion. You have to score a 44 to get into College Algebra or College Math. The first time I took that part of the test, I got a 28. On my retake, I received a 51, which was well over what I needed to get into the classes I want.
After that I changed my math classes and dropped Intermediate Algebra and am not in College Math the first 6 weeks of summer and Statistics the second half of summer. This means I will get my Associate’s Degree at the end of summer. Yay! Now I don’t have to go an extra semester and hopefully can transfer over to the University in the fall to work on finishing my Bachelor’s degree.
FIRES
For those of you who don’t know, Florida needs rain very badly and we have been fighting wildfires throughout the state. The fire that broke out near New Smyrna Beach a week or so ago was about 10 miles from my house. They’ve been closing parts of Interstate 95 which has been a major, major pain in the ass. Hubby works in Brevard county so he’s had trouble getting to work at times because they’ve closed the Interstate down that way, too. They finally opened up the Interestate last Friday and I used it today to go to class and to come home. Evidently not long after that, another fire broke out and now the damn Interstate is closed again.  So I’m back to fighting traffic and taking an hour or more to get somewhere that it normally takes me 25 minutes to get to. It really sucks. Also this fire is about 5 miles away, so it’s even closer.
We need rain and we need it soon, so someone please send us some rain down this way.
HUBBY SICK
And if all of that wasn’t enough, somehow it appears that hubby managed to come down with strep throat. I finally took him to the doctor on Friday so he could get some antibiotics. He doesn’t feel better today so tomorrow I’m going to try to get him in to see MY doctor. I’ve had strep a couple of times and remember how painful it was, but I’ve never had it as bad as he seems to be feeling.
The main thing he’s complaining about are these canker sores of some sort on the bottom of his tongue. He’s been in a lot of pain lately and it’s been hard to eat, talk or drink anything because of these canker sores. I’ve heard a couple of people mention that it could be part of the strep infection, but I had never heard of it before. He’s tried warm salt water, Chloraseptic, and Orajel. It seems nothing is making a dent in the pain and most everything just burns and hurts really bad.
Naturally I’ve been concerned because I’m not sure exactly what this is because of the whitish sores on the bottom of his tongue. That’s why I decided I’d just try to get him into my doctor’s office tomorrow.
IN CONCLUSION
Well, that’s sort of the ’short’ version of what’s been going on in my life. Right now I’m just exhausted, so I’m off to sleep for the night.
